Experienced in Canadian employment law, Stephen is sought after as a speaker at legal conferences and by media outlets for the knowledge he has gleaned from thirty years of practice and litigation.
Over the course of his career, Stephen has protected clients from competitor missteps, protected company shareholders, and saved clients millions of dollars.
His Career
Stephen’s career expanded to include the forensic inspection of media devices (computers, etc.) in regards to the collection, preservation, and integrity of digital evidence found on those devices. It was an expertise he developed, somewhat by necessity, over the years he has been a litigator. Now, he teaches seminars on the specialty to other attorneys.
His legal foundation was set first with his LL.B from Queens University and later when he earned his graduate studies in law at Oxford University. Afterward, he joined the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Ontario.
Stephen is now a partner at DLA Piper (Canada) LLP in Toronto, a transition he made in 2019 after spending the bulk of his career with Hicks Morley.
Stephen recently relocated his offices from Toronto to The Beasley where he now leases a space from his friend John Vitulli, one of Hamilton’s leading corporate and real estate lawyers. The ability to easily discuss, debate, and collaborate with each other has helped enrich both of their careers.
Stephen has tried to find balance in his life by enjoying outdoor pursuits. He and his family run a farm in Ancaster. When he is not busy with running his law practice or running after cattle, he can be found running long distances or pursuing the meditative sport of fly fishing.
His Town
Ancaster is a historic town in the city of Hamilton, Ontario. Founded in 1793, it became one of the first influential early British Upper Canada communities during the late 18th century. Decades later it merged with the city of Hamilton in 2001, but to this day it maintains its own feel, separate and apart from the larger city and the overall Ontario region.
Ancaster is known for its gorgeous, historical architecture and small, but bustling downtown area. The town has many stone buildings, including cottages constructed in a neoclassical style, as well as larger homes in regency villa style, Italianate style and neoclassical Victorian.
Ancaster’s downtown is one of the most distinct districts in Canada, with old stone buildings, dining, fashion boutiques and a farmer’s market.
Stephen Gleave is a vocal booster of his town, taking every opportunity to educate friends, family and legal clients on its many charms.
