It’s no secret that I love where I live, Ancaster, a historic town in the city of Hamilton, Ontario that was founded in 1793 and decades later merged with Hamilton but maintains its own feel from the city and overall Ontario region.
There’s a lot to like about Ancaster – the Tiffany Falls Conservation Area with its hiking trails, the walkable Ancaster Village with its quaint shops, restaurants and historic buildings, the beautiful natural geography of the Niagara Escarpment.
But I wanted to talk to you today about something else: Ancaster’s charming neighborhoods.
Meadowlands of Ancaster
Located just off of Highway 403 at Lincoln Alexander Parkway, this relatively new neighborhood sports newer construction with a variety of building styles. Several homebuilders have contributed to the neighborhood, including Landmart Homes, Scarlett Homes and Maple Crest Homes. Mattamy Homes built an area within the Meadowlands called Ancaster Arbor. Tiffany Hill is the newest development with homes by Desantis, Rosehaven Homes and CDI. Another new development by Losani Homes is called Woodlands.
Oakhill/Clearview Heights
This is one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Ancaster. It boasts large, older, executive-style homes with big, leafy lots, including some with ravine exposures. This neighborhood is surrounded by the Dundas Valley Conservation Area and has a lot of hiking trails. The Somerset Estates and Deerview Crossing subdivisions were developed in the 1080s.
Maple Lane Annex
This neighborhood is located just south of Highway 403 to Garner Road East. One of its newest housing developments is the Fields of Fiddler’s Green subdivision. Near Highway 403 there are new-ish, executive style townhomes made by Marz and Branthaven Homes.
Nakoma, Greenside Acres and Perth Park
These are mature neighborhoods that sit right next to each other just off of Highway 403 at Fiddlers Green and are near shopping and other amenities. These neighborhoods have older homes with big, treed lots.
Ancaster Heights, Mohawk Meadows and Maywood
Ancaster Heights is a beautiful, mature neighborhood near the Tiffany Falls Conservation Area. Mohawk Meadows is home to Rousseau Elementary School, a highly regarded school in Ontario, according to the Fraser Institute. Nearby are other amenities like the Meadowlands Power Centre, Parks and the Hamilton Golf and Country Club. Maywood is next to Ancaster Village; it’s one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Ancaster.
I know, I know, my hyping of Ancaster might make you think, “This Stephen Gleave is loony.” But I’m not the only one who loves this area. When compared to other nearby areas – Burlington, Oakville, Toronto – Ancaster offers quite the bargain, price-wise, which is why people from those areas are coming to Ancaster. I’d love to have you become my neighbor.
